Sometimes the health + wellness goals we set stick for a bit and then they slowly…but surely…fall to the wayside. Not only is it difficult for me to stay motivated, it’s also hard for me to be truly informed since some of this healthy lifestyle stuff can be both confusing and conflicting. For example: this recent coconut oil debate…like what?!?
On top of all of that, turning 30 kicked my a**. Not only did the number sound kinda old to me, I actually started feeling kinda old.
I’ve known for awhile that my lifestyle really needed an overhaul, but honestly I was all talk and no action. It wasn’t till recently that I got tired of feeling like crud, tired of living off of espresso and prayers, and I decided to finally start giving my lifestyle the makeover it needed.
Now let me be reallllllyyyyy clear before you keep reading. Have I figured this healthy stuff out? No. Do I eat right all the time? Heck no. Am I exercising regularly? It’s a miracle if I get in 2 workouts a week. Am I happy with my weight? Um no.
This health and wellness journey is new for me, and admittedly…it’s hard for me! I figure if it’s new and hard for me, it might be new and hard for someone else…and maybe you might need a little (or a lot!) of encouragement like I do.
Here are some creative, low-stress, pretty easy, and even fun (say whaaa?) things I’ve discovered that help me feel better and look better.
Although they might be “duh” moments for some of you healthy lifestyle peeps, they are health and wellness discoveries that are really working for me, and I actually feel like I’ll be able to stick with them for awhile. #miracle
Drum roll please.
If you’ve heard this once, you’ve heard it a thousand times. Drink more water! I don’t need to tell you why. You know why. But I’m one of those weirdos who doesn’t actually like the taste of water, and I operate in a pretty much dehydrated state 24-7. Am I alone?
The ONLY, and I mean the ONLY way I have discovered to get in the recommended daily amount of water (8 ounces x 8 glasses = 64 ounces) is to make and drink fruit-infused water.
My friend Trenda is the gal who taught me about this long ago, but now that I’m making my own fruit infused water I’m actually enjoying drinking water and I FEEL better! Some of my favs are strawberry kiwi, cucumber lime, and watermelon basil. It’s not hard to do, and it’s actually fun to be creative with it. Make a big jug of it the night before, put in the fridge, and fill up throughout the day. Or take the jug with you to work!
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Not liking the taste of water is NOTHING compared to how much I dislike the taste of Apple Cider Vinegar. But do you know…..I mean do you really know…… the insane health benefits of drinking this nasty-tasting stuff?
The list is long but here are my favs: helps you maintain a healthy pH level (cancer can’t grow in an alkaline environment!), heart health, aids in weight loss efforts, and eliminates yeast overgrowth (just going to leave that one there ladies!).
If you’re a wellness rockstar, you probably mix a couple of teaspoons of ACV into 16 ounces of water and drink it each day. If you’re a ninny like me and can’t stand the taste of watered down ACV, try drinking it in an ACV-infused beverage.
My favorite is from Mother’s Beverage. They have lots of fun and interesting flavors like Strawberry Vanilla, Blueberry Sage, and Raspberry Rose. Can you still taste the ACV? Yes. Is it tolerable? Yes. And the drinks are actually really, really yummy!
You may or may not have heard of Thrive. Maybe your cousin sells it (mine does!) or you’ve seen people post about it on Facebook. I will be the first person to tell you that I was skeptical. Skeptical of the claims that Thrive, a 3-step nutrition process, could actually make someone feel better and have more energy instantly. Skeptical that it could help people lose weight/inches. Skeptical about ALL of it.
But after trying the multi-vitamins, shake, and patch for 3 days…I bought it all.
All of it! It made me feel THAT good after just 3 days.
Honestly, I don’t weigh myself because I find it is bad for my mental health (ha!), but I do know this: I have lost inches in my waist and hips. I no longer get that 2PM/3PM crash where I am running to Starbucks just to get through the afternoon.
I have healthy-feeling, sustainable energy. And I’m no longer craving sweets like I used to. WIN WIN WIN! I won’t bore you with all the details here, but if you want to hear more about my experience…email me and I will be happy to share!
Another gal pal, Tiffany Hendra from Sanctuary of Style and Real Housewives of Dallas, taught me this tip:
Eat blueberries every. single. day.
Did you know blueberries can lower chronic inflammation, which is one of the biggest causes of acne? Overly powerful inflammatory responses against the bacteria in our pores actually reddens and swells the surrounding tissues, turning it into acne.
As someone who sometimes struggles with auto-immune flare ups and adult acne in a big way, blueberries are now my go-to fruit. I mix them in my daily Thrive smoothie and add them into my yogurt, along with other anti-oxidant rich fruits like cranberries and blackberries.
So far this list has been all about things we consume, but what about our environment? What about the way it makes us feel? If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know I am a #crazyplantlady, so you probably aren’t surprised to see house plants on the list.
In addition to the scientific benefits like creating oxygen and purifying the air, there are all sorts of fancy studies that show house plants sharpen focus and improve health. I’ve found that living in a home with plants and flowers actually positively impacts my happiness and overall well-being. And it doesn’t hurt that they are really pretty, too. 🙂
MY BODY VIBES
When I heard about Body Vibes, I immediately contacted the brand to learn more. It might sound kinda crazy, but Body Vibes are smart stickers programmed to deliver natural bio-frequencies to optimize brain + body functions, restore missing cell communication, and accelerate the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
They come in all different types, like anti-anxiety, beauty sleep, etc. You can learn more about the science behind it over on their website, but this is what I know for sure: ever since I started regularly wearing the mental focus, unicorn skin, and mood boost…I have noticed a difference in my skin and my mood.
Is it from Body Vibes or is it from the other health and wellness discoveries? It’s hard to say, but I want to continue feeling this good….so I will continue sporting these smart stickers!
Last, but certainly not least, is my gratitude journal. My dear friend Nicole taught me all about the power of gratitude + visualization almost 10 years ago, and it has impacted my life in a BIG way.
But it wasn’t till recently that I committed to the daily formal practice of writing in my gratitude journal.
These days I’m taking just a few moments each morning when I wake up and each night before I go to sleep to jot down the things I am thankful for. I am definitely noticing positive changes in my life, and I know this practice will just multiply the blessings and the joy!

And yeah, I know there isn’t anything on this list about exercise. To be honest, I haven’t found any type of exercise that I really enjoy. Right now I am just tolerating it. Any suggestions for types of exercise (that don’t take place in a gym!) are welcome.
